Kutcher to play Steve Jobs in new biopic

Ashton Kutcher is to play the late pioneering tech magnet and founder of Apple, Steve Jobs in a new biopic, Jobs, to be filmed next month. With the news released yesterday and Kutcher’s love of pratical jokes, many dismissed it as an April Fool’s hoax, however CNN confirmed the story earlier today.

Whilst many are baffled by the strange casting choice, Kutcher remains one of the most tech-savvy Hollywood actors and saw his number of followers recently surpass the 10 million mark on Twitter. Equally, he has invested widely in a number of start-ups in California.

Directed by Joshua Michael Stern, Jobs‘ producers hope to gain the advantage over another biopic on the Apple founder that was announced last year. Based on the best-selling authorised biography by Walter Issacson that was released shortly after Jobs’ death last October, Sony Pictures are looking to appoint Aaron Sorkin, writer of The West Wing and The Social Network as screenwriter. With over 379,000 copies sold in the US in its first week and 37,000 in the first five days in the UK, Sorkin is unfazed by the pressure.

“It’s a really big movie and it’s going to be a great movie no matter who writes it. He was a great entrepreneur, he was a great artist, a great thinker.”
